The SB20 National Championships kick off today, as part of Sail Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland.

The great fleet of quality sailors has come from around country to try and add their name to the perpetual trophy including ex-World champions.

With the likes of Chris Dare from Melbourne, former Big boat owner, who loves this type of One Design sailing without the worry of having to organise a football team to go sailing along with the costs involved.

Stephen Fries (Golly), also from Melbourne, who has teamed up with Mooloolaba Local Greg Williams in his boat and Is looking for a good result ager finishing seventh in the 2013 National Titles.

Then you have the Taswegians Stephan Catchpool and Nick Rodgers who have been training all summer down on the Derwent River for this big regatta and should be the boats to beat!

There is some late money for a last minute entry, Glen Bourke, sailing his old boat with the new owner and class president Robert Jeffreys crewing for him. Glen finished in a three way tie for first at the 2012 SB20 World Titles but finished second on a count back. The three time Laser World Champ will be looking to go one better in the ocean swell off Mooloolaba.

Here’s to some great close racing, blue sky’s and some breeze please Huey.
