Runaway Bay Marina an Accredited Clean Marina

by MIAA on 7 Nov 2008
Ideally positioned on the northern end of the Gold Coast, Runaway Bay Marina has achieved top industry standards. MIAA
Runaway Bay Marina was today presented with accreditation as the highest level Clean Marina by the Hon. Peta-Kaye Croft, State member for Broadwater.

The Clean Marinas Australia Program is a national initiative that encourages environmental compliance and the use of best management practices for the marina industries. The Program is administered by the Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA) and is supported by all state governments in Australia.

To achieve and maintain Clean Marinas status Runaway Bay was recently audited by an environmental auditor, independent of MIAA. The auditor assessed seven general operation areas such as fueling facilities and workshops and 123 specific items such as pump out facilities, training in emergency procedures and oil storage.

In presenting the Clean Marinas flag to the Runaway Bay Marina manager Mike Harvey the Hon. Peta-Kaye Croft said it was pleasing to see industry implementing programs to support a cleaner environment. 'I am passionate about the environment and Runaway Bay Marina and the MIAA are to be congratulated on implementing this program,' she said.

MIAA Executive Officer Mr Colin Bransgrove confirmed that the audit of Runaway Bay Marina gave the marina a very high rating. 'The auditor commented that the marina has a very detailed environmental policy in place and a thorough operational management plan including emergency procedures for all contingencies,' he noted.

Runaway Bay Marina has vessel capacity for over 180 water berths and capacity for 260 vessels in dry storage.
