The weather briefing for this year's Rolex Sydney Hobart start was held on Thursday ahead of the start on Saturday.
Video of the official weather briefing from the Bureau of Meteorology's Michael Logan on Christmas Eve 2015 for the Rolex Sydney Hobart start on Boxing Day, together with a weather synopsis.
The synopsis of the briefing is that at the start winds are expected to be a 15kt NE inside the harbour, outside the wind will increase to 20-25kts from the NE and around 5.00pm the wind will be a northerly at 20-30kts with rough seas.
When the southerly front hits it will be 25-35kts which is at the lower end of gale (34-47kts). There will be some background swell from the NE along with rain and thunderstorms.
Winds will start to moderate on Sunday around 11.00am it will lighten as the day progresses. Some difficulty predicting the situation around Tasmania on Sunday because of the light winds.
On Monday the high becomes established giving light winds tending NW in direction.
