2016 Rio Olympic games - The RS:X Class has sent the BYO (‘Bring Your Own’) Regulation to ISAF for approval.
As most of the sailors and coaches were waiting for some time the serial numbers of BYO equipment, they are allowed to use at the 2016 Rio Olympic games, the regulation prepared by the RS:X Class is published below.
There is still possibility that ISAF will make some changes especially regarding the procedures but it will not affect the equipment serial numbers stated in the regulation.
Following the Annual General Meeting AGM (July 1st, 2014) in Cesme (Turkey) and the Extraordinary General Meeting (September 11, 2014) in Santander (Spain) concerning the decision for the RS:X sailors to may use at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games Sailing Regatta their own equipment on the following conditions:
1. Every competitor may decide to bring his/her own (BYO – ‘bring your own’) equipment or to use the equipment provided by LOA.
2. Equipment to be used as BYO shall be mast, boom and fin.
3. This document is based on the clear identification of equipment serial numbers – serial numbers that are partly or totally unreadable shall not be accepted.
4. Batten 6 for the RS:X 8.5 sail and the RS:X 9.5 sail shall be the new two part batten which shall be supplied with the sail. All replacements made during the 2016 Olympic Regatta shall also be the new two part batten.
5. One set of the equipment can be registered as BYO with following limitations:
a. Mast to be used with serial number:
For 490 masts – 23A17C000001 or greater
For 520 masts – 23A17D000001 or greater
For reference to sailors, the following information is provided as quidance with regards to determining whether equipment complies.
Digit 2 referes to the year of manufacture and digit 3 refers to the month, therefore only masts greater than “23A...” shall be accepted. The last 6 digits are the serial number and numbers greater than those shown in combination with requirements of digits 2 and 3 will be accepted.
If a sailor supplies their own equipment, then the class rule limitations on permitted modifciations and maintenance shall apply. Additional checking may be carried out to ensure that the masts have not been modified beyond the
permitted extent.
Sailors who request to have a mast supplied, the following class rule shall not apply;
C.8.2(p)
b. Fin to be used with serial number:
For 600 mm fins – 3110054476-493 or greater

The first set of digits refer to the batch production number and shall be equal to or greater than the number shown.
The second set of digits refer to the serial number and shall be equal to or greater than the number shown.
All RS:X sailors should be made aware that 60 fins with the serial number lower than 714 and 66 fins with the serial number lower than 735 potentially have an issue with the nylon material in the head of the fin which is prone to cracking. Sailors who decide to nominate a fin with a known fault do so at their own risk and acknowledge that redress or equipment replacement during the Olympic Regatta will not be granted for those fins.
If a sailor supplies their own equipment, then the class rule limitations on permitted modifciations and maintenance shall apply. Additional checking may be carried out to ensure that the fins have not been modified beyond the permitted extent.
