Emirates Team New Zealand's AC72 and the ORMA 60 trimaran Teamvodaphone cut fast tracks in front of the Friday night racers, their red livery bright against a blue sea.

A perfect evening on Friday preceded the weekend's bad weather, and both boats were fine tuning, TeamVodaphoneSailing for next Friday's Coastal Classic race to Russell in the Bay of Islands, and ETNZ on a steep learning and development curve, in a narrow window, to ready for the Americas Cup challenge.

Paul Gilbert watched from the Michael Savage Memorial at Orakei and sent these images to Sail-world.
