David Gay from Surrey has been selected from over 1,000 entries as the winner of the RYA Yachtmaster Handbook prize draw which was launched at the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show in January celebrating the title’s release.

Simply by purchasing a copy of the book David has won himself a five day RYA Yacht-master Offshore / Yachtmaster Coastal Preparation course, courtesy of UKSA.

'I'm really excited about winning this prize and hope that I can meet the rigorous standards required to then go on and complete my Yacht-master exam. I have completed the shore based Yacht-master Offshore course - twice! Once in 1992 and again in 2007 when I used the course as a refresher to see how GPS had changed the course content. So I’m looking forward to putting my theory into practice,' commented David on his win.

The RYA Yacht-master Handbook is the first official and definitive guide for anyone preparing for the world-renowned RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and Coastal examinations.

Appealing to both leisure sailors and motor cruisers; there is also a section covering commercial endorsement requirements for those who wish to use their qualification professionally.

It describes what you can expect on the day of the examination, the thinking behind the test and what the examiner is looking for.

With the aid of some stunning illustrations, it is designed to make you focus on areas where skills can sometimes be lacking, with the aim of setting you up for life beyond the exam as a competent and confident skipper.

When asked about the book David commented: 'I've found the RYA Yachtmaster Handbook very readable, well laid out and the information presented in a very clear manner providing an excellent background for the course.'
