RS200 UK Nationals - 128 entries and more

by Event media on 17 Aug 2008
RS200 UK Nationals 2006 RS200

There are just a few days left to enter what is shaping up to be the biggest adult two handed dinghy event of the Summer. With 11 days to go there are 128 entries and we are expecting a few more. The list of National, European and World champions in the fleet is growing as is the number of first time attendees. The Class Association, Hayling Island Sailing Club and the organising committee have been working hard to ensure a smooth running of our biggest nationals yet.

The socials are going to be huge with music every night except the beach games /crew race night. Highlights will be the 11 piece jazz and swing band ‘Retroactive’ on the Jazz, Jive and Cocktail night, Buddy night with disco, fancy dress disco (theme ‘Nursey Rhymes and Fables’) and the final night’s band and disco.

There is a full seminar programme lined up, with tips on sailing in waves, gate starts and weather along with ‘question time’ style panel Q&A sessions for helms and crews. The seminars along with the now cherished ‘buddy’ system, where teams of three made up by one boat from each of the gold, silver and bronze fleets, allows for spreading knowledge of sailing from Gold to Bronze fleets and practical points on partying and capsize recovery the other way around!

The race team of Paul and Caroline Maxfield and Bev Moss have been practicing their gate starts and will be out again this Saturday (all welcome see HISC RS200 club page for details).

We have had generous sponsorship from Gul, West Country Boat Repairs, Beminetoday.com, Harken and Selden. The cash sponsorship from West Country Boat Repairs and www.beminetoday.com has allowed for free beer after sailing and nominated cocktails at the jazz night; The Ugly Cocktail and Sex on the Beach respectively.

There will be daily prizes for all fleets as well as spot prizes and of course the Duckhams award.

All we need now if for the weather to settle to a South-Easterly 4 with bright sunshine. Most of the information is online at: www.hisc.co.uk either on the RS200/700 nationals page or the HISC RS200 page.

We look forward to a great weeks sailing and socialising. See you all there.
