Paprec Virbac 2 holds off Hugo Boss

Paprec Virbac 2, a little further south than Hugo Boss are still 92 miles ahead and currently sailing three knots faster than the black boat, and with Force five or six wind.

A slightly calmer night for the fleet that has recently been experiencing the harsh side of the South Indian Ocean, conditions are a little kinder which will be welcome for many.

They are currently 1,380 miles from the Cook Strait scoring gate, and are due to arrive for Christmas Day. Hugo Boss seems to show bursts of her famous speed, and although on the same direct heading to Cook Strait it is not easy strategically.

Temenos II has headed quite far south after the safety gate for weather reasons; they are going to get to Cook Strait very fast, and both skippers sounded impatient to sail fast again with a secure boat.

Mutual Madrileña still have strong winds and are doing stable fast speeds on the boat, and have gained 56 miles overnight.

Educación sin Fronteras is the only boat to have left the Kerguelen Islands to starboard which is longer, and they have consequently lost about 46 miles, and have also been some pretty demanding conditions with strong wind and big seas.

Positions at 08:00 hrs - 22 December 2007

1 Paprec Virbac 2 12,630 to finish
2 Hugo Boss + 91
3 Temenos 2 + 1628
4 Mutua Madrileña + 2011
