The ingenious, innovative Deck Hatch from P&W Jeni Bone
An exhibitor at SCIBS on Queensland’s Gold Coast, taking up a prominent end position in the Superacht and Marine Pavilion, P&W Marine Engineers had an array of innovative products on display.
Founder and MD, Ross Cameron said SCIBS is as much about networking, meeting companies they supply to as well as boat owners, to reinforce the brand and inform them of new products, as it is about showcasing their own inventions.
This year, P&W have a new exhaust mixer, deck hatch, nominated for its innovation at the recent ASMEX awards, and new trailer jack to make changing tyres easy. Their glass-topped propeller coffee tables too are a hit with the boaties!
'We supply 95 per cent of all OEMs in Australia,' said Cameron. 'We are the most awarded marine engineering companies in the country, with a focus on innovation and creativity – all manufactured here in Australia, up the road in Brisbane.'
The new deck hatch from P&W is made in marine grade cast CC601 heat-treated aluminium. It was designed to be safe, lockable and user-friendly, and for these virtues, it was recognized among the most innovative products of 2014 at the Marine and Superyacht Industry Awards, held at ASMEX in the days prior to SCIBS.
'It’s a hinged hatch with S/S gas struts for easy lift, flush design so it’s not a trip hazard and won’t pool water,' explained Ross. 'It’s very robust and virtually maintenance free.'
The other stand-out on the P&W display is the trailer jack, designed to make changing tyres simple and no-stress. 'Again, it’s robust and light-weight, made of marine grade cast CC601 aluminium and NATA lab tested to 2,000kg without failure,' said Cameron.
From SCIBS, Cameron says the company gleaned several new leads and made contact with some current clients, which is invaluable in the current climate where relationships matter more than pricing in many cases.
