by Sail-World.com/uk on 12 Aug 2008
Day 4 of the Sailing in Qingdao saw the Laser and Laser Radial join the racing and for Penny Clark it was a great start. Clark who was sixth at the first mark, then moved into second by the third mark and held off a determined challenge from Gintare Volungeviciute of Lithuainia and American, Anna Tunnicliffe on the finish line.

Not such a good start for Paul Goodison in the Laser. In the first Laser race Paul Goodison was buried in mid pack for most of the race but managed to pick up some places on the final leg to finish 15th. Winner was Julio Alsogaray of Argentina, second Andrew Murdoch of New Zealand and third Matias del Solar of Chile.

Better for Goodison in the second race where he finished second behind Jean Baptiste Bernaz of France. This put him in sixth place overall for the day. Laser race leader is Andrew Murdoch of New Zealand.

In the second day of racing for the 470, in the Men's event Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield won race 3, the first race today. Second were Anton Dahlberg and Sebastian Ostling of Sweden and third the Australian pair, Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page. In race two Rogers and Glanfield finished fourth and are upto fifth overall before the discard. New overall leaders are the Australians, Wilmot and Page.

In the Women's 470 event, Christina Bassadone and Saskia Clark got the bounce back they were looking for in race three of the 470 event, finishing third, which was won by Nike Kornecki and Vered Buskila of Israel. They followed that with a fourth place in race 4 to finish the day in eighth overall. The Australian pair Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinson are the new leaders.

The RS:X Men's event was also a better day for Nick Dempsey, he finished third in the first race today, behind the event leader Shaahar Zubari (ISR) and King Yin Chan (HKG). And then took second in race 4 to finish the day in fifth overall. Event leader is Zubari.

In the Women's RS:X event, Bryony Shaw only managed an 11th in the first race but did better in race 4 finishing sixth to be fifth overall after four races.
