by Terry Curtis
Race 1 got underway in a northerly breeze which was variable both in direction & velocity. Frensham Pond’s Nick Craig lead the race from start to finish, with the rest of the fleet playing snakes & ladders on the windward legs. Jon Fish took his ladder at the right time, to take second place from local boy Tony Rich & Gavin Waldron from South Staffs fourth.
After Lunch race 2 started in 10-12 knots of breeze which was a little more stable. Craig again took the lead, this time closely pursued by Terry Curtis of Upper Thames. Craig was able to maintain a small lead and covered Curtis loosely around the course. Fish came through the fleet to third place, these positions were maintained to the finish.
The wind held for race 3, which was the best of the day. Fish lead at the windward mark, followed by Craig & Curtis. Craig pulled through to lead at the end of a very one sided second beat, Fish was in the lead again at the Wing mark but was then overhauled by Curtis down the second reach.
By the run Craig was back in touch and all three boats were neck and neck at the leeward mark with much tactical manouvering. Craig eventually broke free by a couple of lengths to take first place, Fish held on for second with Keith Dutton coming in from the right hand corner to steal 3rd from Curtis in 4th.
