Northshore Australian National Championships at RMYC Toronto

by Rod Mackay on 7 Sep 2012
Start line - Nothshore Nationals at Lake Macquarie Rod Mackay
The third Northshore Australian National Championships were hosted by RMYC Toronto in August. The weather gods weren’t kind for the regatta and the weekend before causing apologies from three Sydney boats and also the cancellation of Saturdays’ races due to heavy breezes.

The weather didn’t affect the excellent buffet dinner at the Toronto Bay Bistro for competitors and families on the Saturday night and a good night was had by all. Then Sunday coughed up about a 2-9 knot breeze which tested the entire fleet.

The results were: first: 'Valkyrie' NS369- Christian Nicks/Rod Mackay CYCA Sydney; second: 'Mulloka' NS31- Phil Derby RMYC Toronto; third: 'Wild Cherry' NS33- Alan Laverick RMYC Toronto; fourth: 'Pyxis' NS38- Chris Hadrill GBBC Hobart. Chris and crew also won the prize for longest trip for a visiting competitor.

Special thanks to sponsors of this event: Club Marine, R&M Insurance; Acrocert; RMYC Toronto, RA Mackay Yacht Brokerage, Bob Fussell Marine.

RMYC Toronto is planning an information evening for those people interested in learning how to sail. Members of the RMYC Toronto with extensive sailing experience will brief attendees on where they started sailing and in what boats and what they get out of sailing. They will also talk about the role a crew plays in making a sailing exercise a successful event. We will also have a Yachting Australia qualified sailing instructor on hand to talk to attendees about the courses they should complete to become a bona-fide yachtsman.

The RMYC Toronto is planning to start a sailing school and the club is looking at this information night as a way of determining how many students are interested in learning how to sail. So come along on September 20th at 6.00 pm. For more information contact the Club on 0249592051.
