Racing off the beach over five days in the waters off Mackay during winter with the Whitsundays in view is as good as it gets.

In an Olympic year where Australian sailors are expected to excel, the Mackay Yacht Club will host sailing in a mini olympics better known as the North Queensland Games, in June 2012.

The North Queensland Games are the largest multi sport event in regional Australia and Mackay Yacht Club is gearing up for a big regatta with plenty of action on and off the water.

Apart from the well known keel boat events, sailing has been fragmented for some time in North Queensland but a large contingent of NQ sailors are expected and they are putting out the challenge for sailors from other areas. All off-the-beach class and all sailors are invited with racing over several courses with NQ Games medals and of course bragging rights up for grabs. Sailing in Mackay in June can be extreemly enjoyable and or exciting but always memorable.

The event will be held 25 - 29 June 2012 and the NOR will soon be posted on the Club and Yachting Queensland websites.

The organisers have arranged budget accomodation and camping and promise plenty of good times at the modern Clubhouse located at mackay marina with sandy beaches and entertainment precinct nearby to satisfy all needs.
