AC 34, Marblehead to Halifax and other Canadian sailing news!
Legal battles, high speed action, political fights, human tragedy, event boycotts, public drama; no, we're not talking about the latest summer blockbuster... it's the 34th America's Cup! Racing in the Louis Vuitton series is set to begin tomorrow but it sounds like Team Emirates New Zealand will be racing by themselves as Italian team Luna Rossa, who are waiting for the Jury's decision following their protest of the recent rule changes, have opted to sit the first race out. Stay with us over the summer as we bring you all the action from San Francisco!

George David's Rambler Reichel Pugh 90 is leading the fleet in the 600-mile Marblehead to Halifax race; it was a light wind start under sunny skies earlier today in Massachusetts. We'll be keeping an eye on the very fast front runners as the course record, set in 2011, could easily be challenged this year.
On July 17, Nova Scotia Cape Breton Island will host the Race the Cape event; four days of challenging point to point racing through the amazing Bras d'Or inland sea and along Cape Breton's rugged Atlantic coast. Forty boats are already registered ranging from small day racers to large cruisers. I suspect many will be there for the legendary hospitality in each port of call!
The Great Lakes welcome offshore racers next week-end; the Lake Ontario 300 Challenge will start in Port Credit, Ontario while Chicago will hostvthe Race to Mackinac. At 300 nautical miles, the Lake Ontario 300 Challenge is the longest annual fresh water race in the world and runs concurrently with the oldest annual freshwater race in the world, this the Race to Mackinac's 105th running.

Congratulations to Canadian Sail Team veterans Jon Ladha and Daniel Inkpen of RNYC for a third place finish in the Silver fleet and RCYC's Ferguson twins for a 10th place in Bronze at the hotly contested 49er and 49erFX Europeans Championship in Denmark. The championship win for the local 49erFX ladies Danish team of Nielsen and Olsen was the icing on the cake to wrap up a fabulous event.
