AC 72 and Canadian Racing news!
 | | San Francisco (USA) Oracle Team USA - February 2013 Guilain Grenier/Oracle Racing© | San Francisco is getting ready for the 'Summer of Racing' as transformations are underway at Pier 28 and 29 to create the America's Cup Park, which, along with the America's Cup Village, will constitute the main attraction sites for race viewers on San Francisco Bay. Racing begins on July 4th with the Louis Vuitton Cup and will run through the summer months; America's Cup finals are scheduled for September.
We share many reports from the AC 72 yachts this week; Sail-World editor Rob Kothe has a straight talk with Oracle skipper James Spithill, America's Cup editor Richard Gladwell captured images and videos of Emirates Team New Zealand showing their stuff and we have picked up other select content from team blogs. The war of words and images is on as teams are fully intent on intimidating each other with their latest on-the-water foiling exploits. The next few months promise to be very exciting for America's Cup armchair racers. Next event in the AC World Series is set for Naples, Italy in mid April; this event takes place in the AC 45 yacht, the same yachts will be back In San Francisco in September for the Red Bull Youth America's Cup, where ten teams composed of 19 to 24-year-old racers will get an opportunity of a lifetime to race on an international scene.

The warmer climes of the Caribbean remain host to some exciting racing this winter; check out the latest from the Rolex Swan Cup Caribbean and the Farr 40 Miami Beach Invitational. Upcoming events include the 40th International Rolex Regatta in St. Thomas, the BVI Sailing Festival and Spring Regatta later this month.

Back home, the 2013 Mobility Cup will help Halifax get ready for the International Association for Disabled Sailing world championships in 2014. Halifax race organizers know a thing or two about putting together a successful event; I am sure they will not disappoint.
We're also paying attention to a story developing off the water; famous Canadian dinghy designer Bruce Kirby has been involved in a dispute over proper licensing rights for his legendary Laser design for many years. He has recently filed a formal legal complaint alleging counterfeit production of the popular racing dinghy.
Finally, Rhonda Joyce and Melges 20 Canada share the first instalment of their racer profiles; PCYC's Jon Messenger is the subject of her first interview.
All the best!
