Welcome to Sail-World Canada
News from the Indian Ocean, Florida and Rio!
 | | Melges 20 - Miami Winter Series USMCA/ Joy Dunigan © | Coconut Grove Sailing Club, in beautiful Miami, FL, is host to 2013 Event No. 1 of the increasingly popular North American Melges 20 Class Association series. With light air prevailing for the first two days of the regatta, everyone needs to pay full attention to keep the boats moving well in the challenging conditions. Canada is well represented with seven of the 39 entries and a handful of Canadian racers on USA boats; racing continues today in the Florida warm climate.

Armel Le Cléac'h is back in the lead in the Vendée Globe after a brilliant move to clear the second ice gate early; the rest of the pack opting to sail a shorter and breezier southern route faced slow conditions getting back up to the gate. The racing remains exciting one third of the way around the world with only 130 miles separating the five front runners while further back, Synerciel and Mirabaud were sailing within sight of each other. The fleet is currently heading due East along the 40th South latitude towards the Amsterdam gate; the ice gates have changed the nature of the race somewhat, but satellite imagery showing icebergs and growlers along the traditional southern route, race organizers play it safe.
