VOR pegs future on women, Brisbane success, Empire Boat Sales launchesIt's very hectic in the marine arena at the moment with regattas, shows, new products and promotions, as things heat up to southern hemisphere spring/summer - the ideal time for boating in all its forms!
Locally, the 52nd Brisbane Boat Show has been deemed a success, with feedback from exhibitors that sales and leads were strong and consumer sentiment high. Organisers, the team at Marine Queensland, have a few weeks to recover now before the inaugural Power, Sail & Paddle at the idyllically-positioned Manly Boat Harbour on the Moreton Bay coast of Brisbane, 22 & 23 September.

This will be a real hands-on 'experiential' show, with opportunities for visitors to get onboard boats of all sizes, from kayaks to sailboats and touch and feel what they're all about. Prospective exhibitors are urged to contact Marine Queensland as soon as possible about rates and packages.
Also in September, the Auckland on Water Boat Show, 5 to 9 September, then on the other side of the world, the world's most glamorous boat shows, Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes, Monaco Yacht Show and Grand Pavois de la Rochelle are a great reason to head to the French Riviera! If only . . .
Slipped in between them, is the PSP Southampton Boat Show, significant for the many British and European launches it hosts, from RIBs to superyachts.

Congratulations to Empire Boat Sales, launching this week as the partnership between two well-respected marine industry identities, Jason Ash, who had previously spent 20 years with Avante Marine, and Darren Vaux, the owner of Australia's most highly awarded marina, Empire Marina Bobbin Head.
More congratulations in order for our friends at Chaparral Australia, Scott and Dani, recognised for their tremendous passion and hard yakka promoting the brand in Australia. They have taken out the International Dealer of the Year Award for 2012.
In other news, something to make all potential sponsors and marine brands take notice - an all-female team is the first entry in the world's most demanding and prestigious ocean race, the 2014/15 Volvo Ocean Race.
Sponsored by global company, SCA (maker of loo paper and personal products), the team is bound to attract some of the world's most brilliant female sailing talent.
We have the exclusive interview with team manager and accomplished sailor, Richard Brisius about the aims and allure of such a team, its value to its sponsors and partners, as well as how a women's team will revive the format and public appeal of the event.

Plus, the world-record holding sailor with 20 Sydney to Hobart's under her belt, and many more titles to her credit, Adrienne Cahalan lends her expert insight into the rigours and challenges of the VOR and how women stack up in the competitive stakes.
