'We're 70% there,' he said today, 'And on target to open Thursday 10am. The marina is full, with the last of the vessels now in. It's all going to plan. There's a lot of beautiful product and a diverse range of activities.'

What has struck Genua this year, is the amount of care and effort exhibitors have gone to with their stands. 'It's very impressive. All the boats and brands have really invested in their displays. And of course, the MyBoatingLife stage looks incredible. It's large, great impact, all the elements we wanted for the launch of this initiative.'
Fortuitously, pleasant weather is predicted, and that, and a concerted marketing effort, will coalesce to bring the crowds.
'We have invested in a substantial marketing plan this year,' confirmed Genua, referring to the statewide TV, radio, newspaper and magazine campaign, as well as online and new this year, outdoor billboards which have caught the collective imagination. 'That's our theme this year – people enjoying the boating lifestyle rather than just product, and it has been effective because the feedback tells us people are seeing the message and saying ‘we can't wait!'

There's plenty of other news too this week, including loads from around Australia, NZ and Asia. The inaugural Rivergate International Boat Show, 5-7 October in Brisbane, will add a marine auction to its program, delivering value added leads to exhibitors as well as additional interest for visitors.

If you have slept through the past few days, the London Olympics began with a bang, and a quirky Opening Ceremony which ushered in all kinds of competition upsets since.

Thankfully, the Aussie sailors are performing as expected and all kinds of records and medals are anticipated in the coming days. May it lead to a spike in interest in all things boating and a great summer of sailing!
