As those who have been on our website www.sail-world.com will be only too well aware, Emirates Team NZ unveiled their new AC72 – the first time one of the catamarans has been seen rigged in the world.
We have several sets of images in this edition – has any boat been so oft photographed without getting wet?
Two key days are yet to come. First the launch on Saturday evening or Sunday – however the wind forecast is not too promising - with fresh easterlies predicted for Auckland on both Saturday and Sunday.
The launch should be spectacular, and free to all the sailing fans. The first 1500 get a free t-shirt, so get down to the Viaduct and catch a sight you will never see again. For those of us who have been around for a bit, these public occasions never leave your memory – the launch of KZ-1 being perhaps the best of them all, followed by the high speed tow out into the Hauraki Gulf chased by several hundred spectator craft..

The second big day will come next week, when she goes for her first sail. The weather isn't looking too promising for that either – the crazy rules regarding limits on sailing days mean that it is not worthwhile going out for a couple of hours to shake down, which is what would normally happen at this time of the year and phase of the campaign – particularly with a new boat.

While you are heading for the AC72 launch – leave a few hours early and get down to the Royal New Zealand yacht Squadron for the Events Clothing sale – there's some fantastic bargains to be had, with several top brands at reductions of up to 80%.
Or, if Saturday doesn't suit, get down there on Friday or Sunday – and don't forget to leave your business card to go in the draw to win a set of Line 7 Offshore Gear.

The Volvo Ocean Race for 2011-12 has finished -well almost, the boats have to leave the finish in Ireland. In this issue we have the story and video of Camper's delivery trip to Spain, where she will be doing more sponsor projects. Quite what happens to the Volvo 70's will be interesting. Certainly they offer plenty of pace for their length, particularly with sheets eased. Or, will they get snapped up as surrogate Volvo 65's, until the real ting gets delivered.

The Optimist World Championships are underway in Boca Chica, in the Dominican Republic. The Opti Worlds are the biggest one design regatta in sailing. Many would argue they are the hardest worlds to win, given that for the 52 teams competing, there are on average another 100 sailors who have trialed for the right to win selection for their team. Sometimes double that number.
We have reports and images from John Adair who is in Boca Chia with the team. Plus there's the official report from the organisers, along with more images and a video.

In Dublin Ireland, the Four Star Pizza (hope there's plenty of free sponsor product available) ISAF Youth Worlds are underway, with New Zealand sailors competing in five events. We have the official results, reports, images and video from the regatta along with the daily reports from Yachting New Zealand on the Kiwi team.
Both the Optimist team and Youth team are sponsored by the NZL Yachting Trust, who have done a sterling job of supporting sailing for so long in New Zealand.

This time next week, we'll be on the big bird heading for the Olympics. Several Sail-World editors are flying in from around the world, and we will have the biggest editorial team at the sailing Olympics. Two of us will be on the water working as accredited photographers. We will be producing a daily newsletter from the Olympic venue, which will summarise the day's racing and action both ashore and on the water. The event will of course be running near live on www.sail-world.com – with stories and images being posted online as they happen.
All going well, this will be sailing coverage like you have never seen before.
