Next Saturday evening, Emirates Team New Zealand will be launching their first AC72 in the Viaduct Harbour at a public ceremony – open to all.
We have been told some of the details, however understand the catamaran will be launched onto a sea of fire – and there is plenty more - and the opportunity for the public to participate.
This will be a significant moment in America's Cup history – the first of the America's Cup AC72 yachts to be launched.
It's your opportunity to personally see some America's Cup history being made. Occasions like this don't come around very often – don't miss it.
Next major event in sailing is the 2012 Olympic Regatta which gets underway in just under two weeks. Sail-World will have a big team in Weymouth, with editors from several regions and two photographers working on the water, plus the world's leading sailing journalist, Bob Fisher, providing a daily perspective on the sailing action – and giving his read on what is happening off the water.

In this edition we take a look at the New Zealand team – using a base of Five Regattas – four of them sailed at the Olympic venue. Using that same base, across the whole team, was a different way of looking at the team form, rather than just taking the peak performances and laying that into the Olympic thinking.
One of the recurring thoughts or memories from the 2008 Olympic Regattas was how the British competitors defined their regatta by whether or not they won a medal. The 2008 post-regatta media conference, held by the British, was notable by the number of their sailors at the front table – then the realisation dawned, that this wasn't their whole sailing team – just the medalists.

Another memory, was a conversation with one of the British coaches – when asked about how they had adjusted/coped to the Chinese conditions - including the much vaunted light winds. The comment was that to the Brits, Qingdao was more like a second home. They had spent so much time sailing, training and living at the difficult venue, that what happened in the Olympics was no surprise.
Already several teams are embedded in Weymouth, and have been for some time. Whether that is the correct approach for 2012 will be known in three and a half weeks.

The ISAF Youth World have started in Ireland. The New Zealand team is only competing in five of the eight events, and got off to a good start in the Womens 420 event, with a race win. But that aside the results could be better.
