Welcome to Sail-World Canada
An exciting VOR finale in Galway!
 | | Foncia tunes up their skills on the Hudson River in New York City on July 5, 2012 in preperation for the long journey across the Atlantic back to France in the Krys Ocean Race. Linda Wright | After an exciting Leg 9 to Ireland won by Camper, the Volvo Ocean Race fleet participated in their last, but very important, meet earlier today in the Discover Ireland In-Port Race in beautiful Galway, this would firm up final standings on the overall event scoreboard. Ken Read and his PUMA team moved to the front of the pack shortly after the start and never relinquished first place, most of the action was taking place behind them between Camper and Groupama trading second place throughout the 8-mile race.
The last few legs have been most exciting, a far cry from the earlier Indian Ocean logistical challenges. This event keeps getting better and, although the future one-design format will take away from the design arms race, it will be most interesting to watch crews compete on a level playing field.
This week-end will see the start of two great offshore events; the biennial Route Halifax Saint-Pierre fleet will depart Nova Scotia on their way to France; they will only sail as far as Newfoundland though where the French islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon lie. 29 yachts, ranging from high performance racers to cruisers, will be on the start line tomorrow in the Halifax Harbour. The other major event is also racing to France; the new MOD70 multihull participating in the KRYS Ocean Race left New York City in their wake earlier today. Brest in France is their destination and the 70-foot Multi One Design yachts, an evolution from the former ORMA yachts, should be within sight of Brittany in record times. Foncia, skippered by Michel Desjoyeaux, gets my vote for the first one there!

The Farr 40 is still drawing a crowd at the Farr 40 North Championship in Newport, RI. Visiting yachts from Australia, Europe and Turkey are competing against local heroes; check out the reports and videos!
 | | Gilmour and Corbett circling in the prestart - Stena Match Cup Sweden 2012 Greg Nicoll |
Don't miss our interview with Peter Gilmour; we connected with the Australian legend at the Stena Cup in Sweden where he shared some insight on the sailing sport and match racing.
All the best!
