Around 9.00am, as you down that fluffy coffee, struggle to concentrate in yet another interminable meeting, or just plain wish you weren't at work - spare a thought for the crews in the Volvo Ocean Race.
About that time they will be sorting out a gybe in the Bay of Biscay, in 40-50kt winds, and will have a bit on their hands. More than a bit, actually.
We've been following the race solidly for the last 18 hours or so.
The breeze has been steadily buildings as a depression moves in from the Atlantic. As the wind increases, so the speeds climb - and tonight comes the news that the race distance record, set by Camper on Leg 1, has been broken by Telefonica.

The new mark is expected to be shoved out even further, before the finish in Lorient around 9.00pm on Friday night NZT. Quite whether it gets to beat the 593nm set by Ericsson 4 in the last Volvo Ocean Race, remains to be seen.
The other issue facing the fleet will be whether they take their foot off the pedal, and decide that discretion is the better part of valour.
Already today there has been issue on one of the boats, and in these conditions there could be more.

For the last couple of days, we have been doing a rolling daily story, with a mix of original content, and some from the Volvo Ocean Race site, plus material from the crews themselves.
Buried in today's report is a great interview with Puma's Ken Read, who is one of the great people in the sport, and always great to be with. In this session he is at his best with 35kts of breeze blowing, water pouring down the deck and Ken is chatting and wisecracking with the world at large via the interweb. Great stuff.

Yesterday, the wingsails for Oracle Racing's AC72 were delivered to their based in San Francisco.
In this edition we have the story, courtesy of a San Francisco website - along with plenty of images of the wingsail and the main beams.
From what can be seen of the beams, the first AC72 looks to be a conventional sort of design approach, in this regard. The wingsails, or any other part are not allowed to be shrouded, so we can be reasonably sure of the final unwrapped shape.
