 | | Olivia Price, Nina Curtis, Lucinda Whitty (AUS) Match Racing - Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta 2012 onEdition © | A wonderful Australian result, from the Skandia Sail for Gold event. With the Olympic less than two months away, the timing is certainly right.
Gold medals for Laser sailor Tom Slingsby, 470 pair Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page, 49er crew Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen, and Women's Match Racers Olivia Price, Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty with Tom Burton winning silver in the Laser
Interesting that this news has not hit the Australian mainstream media, given that on this performance Sailing could once again be the second most successful London 2012 Olympic sport. Have to get the sailors into Speedos if that is not illegal.
Sail-World has been on the water for the last three days in Mooloolaba, at the ADCO Etchells Australasian Championships been some very interesting racing, as you will see from our coverage.
As well as the Etchells racing in solid seas we enjoyed interviewing Jessica Watson, now studying at University and looking forward to the Northern sailing series.
We were the event media, as we are for many of the key Australian sailing events and we had a record TV involvement with the event this year. We have Channel 10 Queensland wide doing the weather from an Etchells and we had Channel 7 and Win TV – 9 both with us twice. Their camera teams did it hard offshore but their support was very good overall, with extended sports feature pieces. High quality general media coverage like this makes sponsors smile and that is good for the events and sailing overall.
