In January, at the Royal Langkawi International Regatta, we were very surprised to be told by an Australian sailor that the regatta turnout is Asia is better than in Australia. We've just finished the Top of the Gulf (53 boats, of which 12 in IRC 1), next up is Koh Samui Regatta (42 entries so far, 14 IRC 1 and 5 IRC 0). This weekend in Malaysia wraps up the inaugural Malaysian Match Racing Championship, and also Hong Kong's first international match racing regatta in 20 years. Evidently sailing is alive and well in in Asia - just look at the 108 Optimists in the Thai Nationals last week.
