Welcome to Sail-World Canada
Racing is heating up in the VOR!
The Canadian Sailing Team just missed the podium at the Semaine Olympique Française de Voile this past week. The duos of Clarke and Bjorn in the Star and McRoberts and Loutitt in the Skud placed fourth in the important pre-Olympics event. The Star World Championships are taking place in the same venue this week and our Canadians will be looking for better luck.
Ken Read and Puma Team are still leading the way in the Volvo Ocean Race as the fleet is about to round the Cabo Branco mark on the bulge of Brazil. Telefonica, Camper and Abu Dhabi are following closely in their wake at less then 22 miles and with the prospect of serious down-wind racing just around the corner; this is still anyone's race!
Sailing through the Caribbean Islands, the Global Ocean Race fleet enjoyed perfect racing conditions earlier this week. In great from since the start 25 days ago, Cessna Citation is on her way to Charleston with a comfortable lead of some 400 miles.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet is on their 14th day of racing from Oakland to Panama, where they will negotiate one of the engineering wonders of the world as they travel up and down the locks of the Panama Canal en route to New York City. The overall race leaders, Gold Coast Australia, De Lage Lagen and Visit Finland are racing down the Mexico cost line in the same order; prevailing light has the race committee concerned about the finish time and, more importantly, the scheduled canal transit time.
All the best!
