Salute to Peter Jenkins, BIG name entertainment at SCIBS, fish reportNot long now until the world is welcomed to Sanctuary Cove for the 24th annual boat show - four weeks!
It really is a landmark event that attracts worldwide interest and judging by the calibre of speakers who are coming to Queensland for the second ASMEX conference in the two days prior to SCIBS, the world is very much paying attention to the marine industry and its future. Turkey, the US, Europe, NZ and Asia are all represented at ASMEX and SCIBS this year, opening up incredible opportunities for local companies.
This week, we are covering the visitor attractions at Sanctuary Cove this year, which will also appeal to exhibitors and trade, especially if they throw the net wider to appeal to lapsed showgoers and people who come for the spectacle and stay for the boat show! Take a look at this year's line-up - as well as a legion of Seven's stars, and the Sunrise broadcast, there's Casey Barnes (who the younger gen will lap up) and a great mix of sailing and safety demos, hands-on courses, fashion, jazz, river cruises and the one and only Ita.
MarineBusiness-World will be once again be sponsoring the main SCIBS Hall, the 100 metre x 50 metres marquee with some 130 exhibitors, we have a stand there too, our reporting base for the event and we'd love to talk to you. Please say 'hi'.

Veteran journo (I mean that in the nicest way!) Bob Wonders, pay tribute to the classy and charismatic Peter Jenkins, who has called it quits from Maritimo after three decades or so and 50 years in the industry. Bob, a mate of his for about that long too, covers the achievements and highlights of PJ's illustrious career.
Also, new insight in to what was killing and spoiling marine life in Gladstone Harbour and waterways. Apparently, according to an independent report, dredging IS to blame, which in turn will lend weight to the commercial fishers' claim against government and industry.
There's a good mix of stories this week and plenty more to come online later this week - including coverage of the America's Cup World Series regatta in Naples and how the contenders are adapting to their new technology, what the addition of multihulls will mean for the sport and spectators, which sponsors are onboard and how they leverage the 'F1 of sailing', plus what it means to be a host city, the benefits and the flow on effect to the boating fraternity.
Have a great week!Jeni Bone, editor
