Welcome to Sail-World Canada
Big winds in Naples - Racing cancelled today!
Congratulations to Toronto's RCYC Chris Cook for his recent podium finish in the Finn class at the 43rd TROFEO SAR Princesa Sofia Regatta in Palma, Spain. The Canadian Sailing team is continuously improving ahead of the London Olympics this summer.
The Class 40 yachts in the Global Ocean Race are making good progress on their way to the Celox Sailing scoring gate located just off the bulge of Brazil. Cessna Citation will be first to make the turn and consider the best routing options towards Charleston, South Carolina.
America's Cup World Series acing was cancelled today in Naples, conditions were simply not suitable to go out. Check out Bob Fisher's reports from the first three days of racing in our Fisher's View articles
Toronto's Diane Reid and her One Girl's Ocean Challenge Mini 6.5 yacht are in France to participate in the popular European Mini circuit. Diane needs to complete a number of races to qualify for the 2013 Mini Transat and it begins today with the French Demi-Clé 6.50 which will take the racers offshore from Lorient in Brittany. This event is a double-handed race; Nick Sellars will join Diane on OGOC. You can follow Diane's blog here.
Camper is some 800 miles from the finish in the Volvo Ocean race after their repair stop in Chile. Groupama secured important scoring points earlier in the week by finishing third. The start of the Leg 6 to Miami is next Sunday, with the popular in-port race on Saturday. Not much time to get the boat ready for Camper; Abu Djabi will re-join the fleet in Brazil while Sanya was shipped to the USA and will be back in Miami.
History buffs will not want to miss the C&C Yachts Reunion and Conference at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club this week-end; see details in the story.
Finally, many Canadians will be racing at the Sperry Top-Sider Charleston Race Week starting on Thursday; lots of action in One-Design classes and on the PHRF racing circles.
All the best!
