Welcome to Sail-World Canada
Canadians are racing in Miami!
It will be a tight battle for second place to Auckland in the Volvo Ocean race fleet; Groupama has already cleared the North Cape and should be in port soon but it's still anyone's game further back! Check out Sail-World's New Zealand editor, Richard Gladwell, review of the routing options with the help of PredictWind.
Phesheya-Racing has reached Punta del Este, Uruguay, earlier this week to complete the podium in the Global Ocean Race. This last let has been particularly challenging for the South African team, they suffered equipment problems and multiple knockdowns sailing upwind along the South American coast. Leg 4 start to Charleston, South Carolina is scheduled for April 1st.
In the Clipper Round the World Race, the crew of Edinburgh Inspiring are back into racing mode again after suspending racing yesterday to transfer an injured crew member to a Japanese coast guard vessel; Alan Stewart broke his leg on in the early part of race nine from China to California. Gold Coast Australia is currently leading the fleet in a tight race around the southern tip of Japan as they make their way towards a mid-Pacific gate.
Challenging racing conditions have caused the race committee to cancel racing for two days in a row for the Star class at the 85th Bacardi Cup in Miami. Racing resumed yesterday with the Star back on the water of Biscayne Bay, joined by Viper 640, Melges 20 and 24 and J/80's; one-design racing at its best! Hebb and Nichol lead the Canadian Star team in 16th place, followed by Cramer and Lymburner in 22th. In the popular Melges 20, fellow PCYC club members are doing well with Jon Messenger leading the way. Richard Reid, the sole Canadian entry in the Melges 24 class is holding his own against a strong international contingent.
All the best, safe travels to those enjoying Spring Break away from home!
