Etchells Worlds, VOR, RORC Caribbean 600 winners and more sailing news

Welcome to this edition of Sail-World.com's UK newsletter.

The Etchells Worlds 2012 have just concluded in the waters off Sydney Heads (Australia). Well done to skippers James Howells, Robert Elliott and David Franks for making the trip 'down under'. The Volvo Ocean Race fleet is heading for New Zealand. A breakaway group of two has formed - read Editor at Large Richard Gladwell's analysis.

The RORC Caribbean 600 winners have been announced, don't miss Tim Wright's images from that event and Conrad Colman and Adrian Kuttel (Cessna Citation) continue to lead the Class40 yachts as the head to Uruguay.

Some dramatic moves over the past eight hours have seen the lead change in the Volvo Ocean Race, and breakaway group form as two of the boats made a move north, sailing away from their destination. Global Ocean Race - Financial Crisis leave the Southern Ocean

Global Ocean Race - The trio of boats still racing are split between the South Atlantic and the Southern Ocean. Volvo Ocean Race: Puma heads for New Zealand at 20kts plus

Puma Ocean Racing, the US flagged entry in the Volvo Ocean Race, is blitzing the fleet, sailing at speeds of around 19kts, while her competitors are sailing at 10-12kts. Worst affected is the leg leader, Camper crewed by Enirates Team NZ, who has been forced to sail the most northerly course of the group, reducing her lead under the on the water snap shot of the boat positions used by VOR... Volvo Ocean Race - The relentless pursuit continues

In the Volvo Ocean Race, Puma Ocean Racing powered by Berg, along with Ken Read/USA, have set out in a northeast direction alone, with the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Tanega Shima being their closest landmark and the remainder of the fleet not within 165 nautical miles (nm). RORC Caribbean 600 - Has Rán clinched the overall title?

On day four of the RORC Caribbean 600, around noon, Niklas Zennstrom's JV52, Ran, appears to have clinched the overall win and will lift the sterling RORC Caribbean 600 Trophy at tomorrow night's prizegiving ceremony. Sailing Arabia - The Tour Leg 4 win to Courrier Dunkerque

Sailing Arabia - The Tour - Leg four was frustratingly slow for the fleet but despite a lack of wind for most of the leg, the battle on the water was no less tense. Arriving in daylight for the first time, the fleet entered Omani waters in the early hours of this morning, and after sailing 278 kilomteres from Ras Al Khaimah to Musandam, many of the teams found themselves match racing to the line....
