Williams number one, VOR, Clipper and all the latest sailing news

Welcome to this edition of Sail-World.com's UK newsletter.

Ian Williams has retained his world number one ISAF Open Match Racing Ranking.

Skandia Sail for Gold entries are now open, the Paralympic Sailing Notice of Race has been released, the Round Britain Land, Sea and Air final route has been revealed and after being becalmed, the Clipper fleet now face the prospect of storms. The Volvo fleet is in Sanya, China and its all systems go for repairs and relaxation before the next leg commences on February 19 to Auckland, New Zealand.

Vice Admiral's Cup Regatta 2012, hosted by the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, is being held from 18th to 20th May and looks set to break all previous records with more than 60 entries anticipated. The eighth edition of this hugely popular regatta will feature classes for 44-46' series production boats (minimum 4 produced) with a maximum IRC rating of 1.240 and a max SPA of 181.5 sq meters... Volvo Ocean Race - Puma Ocean Racing join speed club + Video

Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 - So far this race none of the teams have been able to better Ericsson 4's world record 24-hour speed record, set during the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race when they recorded 596.6 nm. 470 University atudents compete to qualify for BUSA Team Racing Champs

470 student sailors took to the water last weekend across the UK. 79 teams representing 36 British Universities, competed in Qualifiers for the BUCS/BUSA Team Racing Championships 2012. The objective was to identify 22 teams to automatically proceed to the Finals to be held from 7 – 9 April at West Kirby SC and to identify 17 Teams that will compete in Playoffs on 3 - 4 March at Bardowie Loch.... B14 Winter Series Leg 2 at Rutland SC

Harken B14 Seavolution Winter Series second leg was held at Rutland SC. The B14 flying circus headed up the A1(M) to Rutland Water for the Tiger Trophy to be greeted by sub zero weather, -5°C. Taking the forecast into account (starting to sound like a gramophone record), several teams decided that the risk of snow and possible stranding, meant that they would have to decline and not attend.... John Merricks Tiger Trophy at Rutland SC

The 2012 John Merricks Tiger Trophy took place at Rutland Sailing Club with Tom Jeffcoate and Tom Pygall taking the win by the skin of their teeth. Competing in sub-zero conditions, the Scorpion National Champion equaled Merlin Rocket racers Matt Biggs and Ben Hollis from Blithfield with 20 points apiece from the four races. But on the tie-break the trophy went to the Scorpion sailors.... [more]
