STOP PRESS - VinaCapital Hong Kong to Vietnam Race 2011 - AUDI ultra misses record by a whisker
AUDI ultra crossed the finish line in Nha Trang, Vietnam, this morning at 0939h and 24s – leaving Grant Wharington's record of 42h 45m 41s intact by a margin of 59m 17s. More news as soon as we have it.
We published a piece recently called 'The Longest Regatta Bar in the World', having a general moan about over-blown PR claims, and inaccuracy. Evidently it was not read by the PR company retained by Team Korea. Chris Draper and his merry men have done exceptionally well in the first two AC45 World Series regattas, and we take off our collective editorial hat to them.
The relevant story appears below. Draper has just participated in the Admiral Yi-Sun Cup in Korea, helming a J/24. Having had recent experience of Korean regattas (badly organised, poorly run, and abysmally sailed) we reckon that entering someone of Draper's calibre in such an event is nothing more than shameless pot-hunting. That's the Breathless Exaggeration part.
The press release then goes on to describe him as an 'America's Cup helmsman' - which he isn't, yet. That's the inaccuracy part. Need to keep these people honest...
