Camaraderie between Gold Coast shows, IBEX ahead, Try Boating 2011The news has been all New Zealand over the past week, with great results if you're a Wallabies fan, excellent opportunities for antipodean marine businesses at The Cloud expo, and the miserable misfortune of MV Rena, aground on a reef near the
Bay of Plenty. The brightest minds are working on mitigating the oil and chemical spills from the stricken vessel, and NZ Maritime has issued explicit warnings for boaters and the public about exposure in the waters and on beaches at various locations.
This week, heaps of great news, launches and reasons to celebrate this boating life. Mandurah Boat Show is next weekend, and hundreds of east coasters are making the trek to the west for what they are all hoping with be a bumper show. Also ahead, IBEX in Kentucky USA, which is a superb forum for Australian businesses (via AIMEX) and exhibitors to showcase local ingenuity.
One of our features this week, in response to the murmurs about the viability of two boat shows on Queensland's Gold Coast, is comment direct from those involved in the Gold Coast Marine Expo, which will host its inaugural event 4-6 November, Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, gearing up for its 24th event, and Marine Queensland - all united in the belief that these are two great opportunities to present the benefits of boating to the public.
As Don Jones points out, and I hope you'll agree, an industry united in common goals is certainly stronger and more inventive in times of adversity than one that is divided and dubious.
Until next week, please pop back and read our stories, which are updated daily, sometimes twice daily. Together, our online publications reach 2 million individual readers per year, all of whom are committed to boating as their business and their pastime.
