Big Ben, Melges 32s, AC,Clipper - Sailing News from the UK and beyond

The big news this week was the early announcement that Ben Ainslie will lead GBR into battle at 2012 Olympics,

Now the Melges 32's, Tasars and Toppers.

Ahead is the Argo Gold Cup, where World Match Racing Tour Leader Ian Williams will have the chance to cement Team GAC Pindar lead.

Note that come Spring - there will be the Olympic Class Women's Skiff and Multihull Evaluations

ISAF request proposals for women's skiff and mixed multihull
International Sailing Federation,
At the 2011 ISAF Mid-Year Meeting ISAF Council adopted submission M10-11 which confirmed a two person women's skiff and two person mixed gender multihull as Olympic Equipment. ISAF have released the initial request for proposal of equipment for both evaluations with trials likely to take place at a suitable venue in Southern Europe in early spring 2012.... [more]

North West Senior Travellers mid-week handicap event for the over 50s attracted 39 boats from just four clubs. The day started with light rain and little wind but steadily improved as the day wore on, with sunshine and 10 knots of wind by the last race. GP14 Open at Tollesbury SC

The 2011 Tollesbury GP14 Open took place on Saturday, 17 September. With an F6 and heavy rain forecast, the fleet was depleted in size leaving visitors outnumbered only eight to six by locals. After two races, John Kilroy's Samba Pa Ti with tactician Vasco Vascotto holds the lead by one point, ahead of Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino and tactician Francesco Bruni in second overall....
