Sail-World New Zealand: 22 September 2011

Nitro Drennan and co. working the Boat X downhill. - Etchells Entire Winter Series  Alex McKinnon
Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 22 September 2011

The pot continues to bubble on the vexed issue of blocking of America's Cup World Series web coverage into New Zealand.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes, and we hope to have more to report towards the end of the week/weekend NZT.

In the meantime we have pinned the story with all the seven of the full daily commentaries so that as these are unblocked, NZ fans can see what you have missed.

We've also added some new clips - the crash and burn and carnage always seems bring out the mildly curious side in us. They're unblocked and ready to view (Well they were last time we looked!)

Emirates Team NZ trails Oracle Racing - ACWS, Plymouth on Sunday.  Ben Gladwell

While some of the America's Cup World series teams may think they are scrabbling for money, they are not a patch on what is still happening in Christchurch as the City, and sailors in particular, try to get back on their feet for the new sailing season.

Many of the young sailors need money if they are to continue to do any more than just club racing - which is also severely impacted.

We are in the early stages of discussions with people on the ground in Christchurch and are hoping to divert funds and donations through the Mander Trust, a body which is well-established and best placed to handle requests and distribute funds.

With Club Opening Days coming up, one idea is for sailors to donate a gold coin for Christchurch. That way everyone can help and the load is not substantial.

We're not out to raise millions - but a few thousand dollars would not go astray at present.

We'll have more on this project. But in the meantime if every club can take it on themselves to do some fund raising in their own way and push the money through quickly to the Mander Trust, the Red and Blacks will never forget you.

Again we'll have more on this in Sail-World in the near future.

We all now how stoic Cantabrians can be in the face of adversity.

Well the time for being stoic is over - let's help.
