Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 18 September 2011
Emirates Team New Zealand have continued their winning ways at the America's Cup World Series, taking the Match Racing section of the four headed regatta, sailed at Plymouth, England.
New Zealand fans and viewers will get their first opportunity to see their team in action, outside of a highlights package, when the coverage is broadcast for the first time tonight. We have the schedule in this edition of Sail-World.
At the Auckland International Boat Show, we have had a constant string of bewildered sailing fans bemoaning the fact that they have to wait for a week to see their home team competing in the ACWS, while everyone else in the world can see it on demand.

The sailing world is only too well aware of the anguish that the sport has been put through over the past four years, since the America's Cup started appearing on the hearing schedule in the New York Supreme Court. The damage done to the rest of the sport, by this action was immense.
After three years the sport had rebuilt quite nicely around events like the Volvo Ocean Race, Audi MedCup, Extreme Sailing, World Match Racing Tour, and the Olympic sailing circuits amongst others.

Now when there is the chance to get some credibility back into the America's Cup, we see a situation where the fans of the most successful team in the game are marginalised by the uncaring, arrogant and deliberate actions of America's Cup Event Authority.
Despite the actions of ACEA, the New Zealand fans are still interested in seeing the AC45 racing (highlights packages only) which have been running on the Sail-World stand at the Auckland International Boat Show - regularly being five and six deep around the big screen.

Sail-World has two correspondents in Plymouth to cover the regatta. The doyen of sailing writers, Bob Fisher, provides a daily insight into the action and side-issues at the regatta. Ben Gladwell has travelled down from Cowes and is on the water - he gives his first report on the racing and provides a gallery from on the water, in this edition of Sail-World.com
The Auckland International Boat Show is over for another year. The show has grown to an amazing size – which now takes at least a day to get around. Certainly there have been issues with a new Events Centre and waterfront location. But everyone can see the potential, and already the improvements are being noted for next year's show.

In this edition we have several stories and image galleries from around the Auckland International Boat Show. The weather wasn't always this great – and another week in Spring could have been a different story.
However everyone seems very positive about what has been achieved. This event is long on potential, and will set the staging point for many other such events in the Viaduct Harbour - which is now set to become a world maritime centre.
