Aqualuma's Gen 3, Sanctuary Cove Clean Marina, Melb Leisurefest exciteSo many stories this week with a similar theme - optimism! Several high profile new product and model launches, an international win by the Aussie dealer for Chaparral boats, better than expected sales results and several stories about a new found positive outlook for the rest of the year ahead.
I have just come back from a book signing event with the statesman and gentleman of Australian politics, John Howard. Having been a journalist for 23 years and having met, heard speak or overheard their conversations for quite a number of those years, I can compare Mr Howard to quite a few politicians state and federal. Not one of them leaves you with the impression more so than Mr Howard that he was a grateful servant of the Australian people during his nearly 12 years in office.
Today he delved into chapters in his book, 'Lazarus Rising' - his views on incidents, colleagues, the events of September 11 as they unfolded 10 years ago while he was in Washington DC, achievements he was proudest of and his regrets, as well as his mentors. He also revealed the new chapter which covers from 2007 to the present. He spoke about our country's debt, the manufacturing industry, Work Choices and what small and big business needed from government to revive the economy.
It was singularly inspiring and refuelled each of us in our own way.
Good news is, the economy is in good shape, we weathered most of the GFC thanks to a robust economy on sound principles and there could be light ahead.
Enough politics, take a look at this week's batch of features and stories that carry you from the Gold Coast to Monaco, Kentucky for IBEX and Melbourne, Auckland, China and beyond.
Have a great week!Jeni Bone, editor
