Williams leads in St Moritz - sailing news from the UK and the World
Welcome to our latest edition of Sail-World.com's UK newsletter.
The St Moritz Match Race, the sixth stage of the World Match Racing Tour, is underway with Great Britain's Ian Williams, Team GAC Pindar, continuing his winning form. Joint leader after the opening qualifying session, Sweden's Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Berntsson Sailing Team, is hot on the heels of Williams and his crew. Italy's Francesco Bruni (ITA) Bruni Racing leads the Tour after five stages.

The ISAF Team Racing World Championship has commenced in Ireland. Twenty teams from around the world are battling it out in the Youth and Open Championship. Teams from Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, Thailand and the USA are all gathered in Schull for the Championship.
Locally, there is news from Folkboat Week at the Royal Solent Yacht Club, the Catamaran Open at Stokes Bay, previews of the International 14 World Championships, the Cherbourg race, results from Torbay Week and more.
Joe Llwellyn, Nigel Wakefield and Ben Vines on Henri Lloyd – Forelle Estates are the winners of the Laser SB3 UK Championship 2011 held at the Royal Southern Yacht Club, Hamble from 27 to 30 August.
Elsewhere on the sailing scene the Perini Navi Cup, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, is taking place in Porto Cervo ahead of the Maxi Rolex Cup. The Clipper Round the World fleet have started arriving in Rio De Janeiro from Madeira, Spain on the second race in leg one, and Telefonica has qualified for the Volvo Ocean Race.

Volvo Ocean Race: Telefonica returns to base after 2000nm Qualifier Sail-World,  The Spanish Volvo Ocean race entry, Telefonica, is back at the pontoon of her training base at Sanxenxo, in Pontevedra, Spain. At 17:30 local time the Spanish boat skippered by Iker Martínez, with the entire crew on board, completed the almost one thousand mile climb up the Atlantic from the team's offshore base at Marina Rubicón, in Lanzarote, to the one in Sanxenxo, Northern Spain.
