Rambler capsizes. All the latest sailing news from around the globe

Welcome to this edition of Sail-World.com's UK newsletter.

This year's Rolex Fastnet Race has certainly grabbed the headlines and we have all the news, videos and images from the race.

The capsize of Rambler and the subsequent rescue of the crew dominated publications, however the Maxi trimaran Banque Populaire V set a new multihull record and the Volvo Open 70 Abu Dhabi set the new monohull record.

On the home front the Musto Skiff Nationals are underway, indeed so too are the RS800 Nationals, the RS500 Worlds are underway in Weymouth while the F18 and Hurricane Nationals have just concluded.

RS100 Nationals at Weymouth and Portland day 1 + Video
RS Class Association,
RS100 Nationals - With 25 knots on the way to the start, the RS100s blasted down to their start with a few swims. Race one was port biassed with a clean get-away. Paul Childs tacked early and headed right to take first, followed by Neal Freeman and Huw Powell. Childs had a few swims, knocking him to third. Down the last run it was Ian Turnbull, Freeman, Powell and Childs all very tight.... [more]

Eight for the 29er and six for the Byte and Techno 293 board with the elimination of the worst races in place. Excellent results for the Italians in the Byte M&F and Techno board F. Rolex Fastnet Race: Rambler capsize videos and interviews

Yesterday the supermaxi, Rambler 100, the fastest supermaxi in the world, and widely expected to take the monohull record for the Fastnet race, capsized. F18 and Hurricane Nationals - After eight races Hanmore and Pyman pulled off a narrow victory over Connelly and Bull thus becoming this year's British Hurricane Class National Champions. Wilson and Lynch cleaned up in the F18 class scoring seven bullets and discarding two second places, leaving Worthington and Greber in second, one point ahead of Stuart Gummer and Ryan Crawford.... RS800 Nationals - It was a classic opening day for the 59 boats. Racing inside the harbour there was ideal conditions for the twin wire speed boats with 12-15 knots for race one which firmed up for race two to 16-18 knots. Stevie Wilson and Alain Sign loved the conditions; they blitzed race one to win to have the very definition of a comfortable win in race one.... [more]

Volvo 70 takes Rolex Fastnet Race monohull record

While the multihull record fell last night to Maxi Banque Populaire (FRA), so earlier this morning the monohull record for the Rolex Fastnet Race was also demolished. Rolex Fastnet Race - Over Monday night, the 17 remaining Class40's in the 2011 Rolex Fastnet Race fleet crossed the Celtic Sea with reports of 25 knot windspeeds and gusts up to 30 knots with a challenging sea state. Rambler 100 capsized in Fastnet - keel lost + Video

The yacht Rambler 100 has capsized between the Fastnet Rock and the Pantaenius Buoy. The Irish Coastguard services are coordinating the rescue. The Baltimore RNLI lifeboat is on the scene. The Enterprise Open Meeting welcomed nineteen competitors to Elton Sailing Club amid wet and damp weather. The day began with the fleet taking to the water shortly after the rain stopped and the breeze grew stronger. After sausage buns and a cup of tea or coffee we set to race.
