Lounge-chair adventuring can be almost as much fun...
 | | Cowes Week collision between yacht Atlanta and tanker - photos by Herbert Westervelt . | Even if you are unfortunate enough never to set foot in a sailing boat it is a great adventure just keeping track of what's going on in the non-competitive sailing world! Great to read about the sailing feats, the adventures (and misadventures), cruising tales, the new gizmos, the business dramas and all the other goings-on on our world's oceans.
Taking the Idiot's Prize in the most embarrassing incident of the week, 33ft British yacht Atlanta of Chester was either calling right-of-way(she had the tanker to port) over a 120,000 tonne tanker, or thought she could sneak past the bow. See the video in the story...
It's a sad ending for Najad, Swedish makers of fine boats for forty years, who went bankrupt this week, and it's just the dramatic tip of the iceberg in an industry that is reeling in the after-wash of the Western World's economic turmoil.
There are stories of adventurers – another teen rounding Britain, and a record bid by an Aussie round Australia; some skill building for that less-skilled sailing partner; and the product of the week is Yellowbrick 3 – what a tough little beauty it is too.
A couple of cruising tales – from Canada and the Mediterranean - might make you drool to be there, and, talking of drooling, wouldn't I love to be sailing in the cruising rally being organised by Sunsail in the Canary Islands. I was there a few years ago, at that time sailing myself around the world, but would have loved to stay longer to explore...
Did you know humpback whales cannot hear you at all?
Browse down the headlines to see what catches your interest, and...
Sweet sailing!
