Ainslie and Williams aim high, crashes, videos, images and more

Welcome to our latest edition of Sail-World.com's UK newsletter.

The Weymouth and Portland International Regatta is in full swing. Being held at the London Olympics sailing venue, this regatta has attracted the world's top sailors and the competition is tough.

In the Finns, Ben Ainslie showed his class, fighting back after taking an unplanned swim to hold a three point lead going into the lay day. Cold, strong winds and physically testing conditions in Weymouth Bay have been pushing the GBR sailors.

And we cannot forget Cowes Week and the Extreme 40 crashes. While the majority of the fleets enjoyed sunshine and breeze, Aberdeen Asset Management managed to entertain the crowds with a spectacular cart wheel, the boat flipping almost vertical, before capsizing. Ian William, Team GAC Pindar is aiming to win his third World Match Racing Tour championship, having two consecutive wins under his belt heading into the St Moritz Match Race at the end of August. Williams is currently lying third on the WMRT leaderboard.

Elsewhere, Phil Sharp leads the British charge on La Solitaire du Figaro's second leg from Caen, France to Dun Laoghaire, Ireland and the first Clipper Round the World yachts are expected shortly in Madeira, Spain.

Gold Coast Australia is expected between 1400 and 1500 local time (1300-1400 GMT).
