Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 28th July 2011
Once again there is plenty of action in this edition of Sail-World.
The Flying Fifteen Worlds continue in Hayling Island, with the wind not playing ball. We have the official reports, plus Graeme Robinson continues his excellent series on the New Zealander's fortunes.
From North America - San Francisco to be specific - there is a report from the Laser 4.7's as they start their Worlds - and had the privilege earlier in the week as the New Zealand Prime Minister John Key made a flying visit - taking in the Technos at Chrissie Field as well. John Key also checked out the proposed America's Cup base area in San Francisco.
In Singapore, the New Zealand Optimist team are in action in the Asian Optimist Championships - we have a report on the first couple of days. Another group of Optimist sailors are on a training tour of USA and Europe ahead of the Worlds in Napier in December - they report in and we have links to their blogs, so you can stay up to date with their progress.

In Largs, Scotland, the OK Worlds are in their third day with two New Zealanders competing. Greg Wilcox leads. We don't have an overnight report - as there was no sailing. But we do feature coverage from the first two days in this edition of Sail-World. Stay up to date with this regatta on www.sail-world.com
Over the next few days three substantial events get underway in England and Europe - being the Pre-Olympics at Weymouth, and then on 6 August the Extreme 40's start in Cowes, Isle of Wight, England (but it's not really part of England, as the locals are quick to point out).

In Cascais, Portugal the first round of the America's Cup World Series gets underway on the same day.
In this edition of Sail-World we have previews of three events. The PR machines are running hot from both the catamaran events as they try and take the high ground ahead of their regattas.
Certainly the America's Cup World Series is not assured of centre-stage in this period - that is their choice, as they came into the sailing game preferring this time-slot to avoid a clash with an RC44 event later in August.

Despite widespread speculation there has been no further fall-out from the America's Cup ranks since the summary dismissal of Venzia Challenge (Italy), by America's Cup Defender, Golden Gate Yacht Club. The next milestone looms on 1 August with the requirement to pay a USD 100,000 entry fee.
Further to our earlier story about the Seven Feet Cup in Vladivostok Russia, we have an explanation from Andy Pilcher of Doyle Sails as to some background on the event, and how it got its name.
