All the latest sailing news ....

Welcome to this week's edition of Sail-World.com's European newsletter.

Last week a thunderstorm, which dumped winds of more than 100 knots onto the Chicago-Mackinac fleet on the U.S.'s Lake Michigan provided notice to sailors and event organisers world wide that Mother Nature is in charge.

The Sail-World team was on location and will bring you more news as it unfolds.

Quite a week for World Championships.

The 470 Junior World Championships are underway in Medemblik, Holland. Annika Bochmann and Anika Lorenz from Germany are currently leading the Womens fleet with the Dutch team of, Nina Keijzer and Anneloes van Veen, second.

The Dart 18 World Championships are also underway, as indeed are the F16 Worlds in Maubuisson, France. Meanwhile the International OK Dinghy World Championships 2011 too are underway in Largs, Scotland.

In Aarhus, Denmark Carlo Fracassoli (ITA) leads the Melges 24 European Championship while earlier in the week Polish sailor Przemyslaw Tarnacki won the ISAF Nations Cup Regional Final.

Weymouth and Portland International Regatta - Competitive Laser fleet
International Sailing Federation,
Over 100 Laser and Laser Radial sailors will make the trip to Weymouth and Portland for the Olympic Test Event, as the sailors' countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition. RS Feva World Championship day 2

RS Feva World Championship - Only two races were required for a full qualification series. Approx 10kts hit the deck with a 30 degree shift predicted at some point. The shift happened during the final race which was abandoned due to fleet inversion tendencies. That was when the magic happened.... [more]

Southern Spars take top three overall in the Region of Sardinia Trophy

Southern Spars congratulate the Audi Sailing Team powered by All4One, and complete with a Southern Spars' TPT rig, for obtaining their first victory in an Audi MedCup event on 24 July. International Lightning Class Association World Championship second day started with another perfect day of sailing in Buzios, Brazil. Winds were from the East/Southeast at 14-16 kts. The Brazilian Team of Claus Biekarck, Gunner Ficker and Marcelo Batista da Silva kept their head in the game and won the only race of the day on the final beat and are leading the regatta after three races... Lysekil Women's Match 2011 set for August 1st

Volvo Cup Laser SB3 2011 - On Saturday the wind from the south was strong and gusty - 18 knots. Three races were held back to back. It was a colourful spectacle where the top contenders all vied back and forth for a place on the podium. On Sunday two races were held with the north wind which then dropped during the second race thus reducing the course which had already been shifted to the left.... [more]

The PWA Fuerteventura Grand Slam 2011 experienced incredible weather conditions on day two with 20 knots of wind, blazing sun and turquoise waters that allowed Jose Estredo and Sarah-Quita Offringa to bulldoze their way through the single elimination.
