Sydney boat show 9 days, aquaculture in focus, Marinas 2011 reviewWelcome to a wall-to-wall week of marine business news. Not long now til the 44th Sydney International Boat Show, and we are ecstatic to report, organisers are anticipating a high quality show, with more product launches than ever before.
During the show, the BIA's careers day presentation, Friday midday, aims to introduce some of the industry options and opportunities to High School students – now 318 in total. Speakers include a representative from TAFE NSW, Cathrine Van Venrooy from Marina Industries Association of Australia, Stephen Milne from Riviera, Chris Brown from Superyacht Crew Academy, industry stalwart, Ken Evans and Corrina McMillan from BIA NSW, hoping to shed some insight in to the full gamut of jobs and careers they may not have considered previously.
Along with news from this year's Monaco Yacht Show, this week's batch of stories features one of the dream boats on show there, a collaboration between French fashion designer, Thierry Mugler and Spire speedboats. It's a sign of health and confidence in the top end of the market when concept boats and megayachts are still selling well.
If you are keen for an old-time adventure story, you might like to get a copy of 'Marooned on Mogmog', the Swiss Family Robinson style tale of the Barries who washed up on a tiny island in Micronesia. It is a ripping yarn!
Thanks for your comments (several) noting that by definition 'marooned' means 'to intentionally abandon somebody on a deserted island with little hope of ready rescue or escape'. I am sure this is not what Andrew and Jennifer Barrie had in mind when they set out from WA to cruise the Pacific, and that their publisher just liked the alliteration.
Enjoy this week's wide-ranging stories and pop by for more each and every day.
Look forward to seeing you in Sydney. If you have your own release or news to announce, please let us know and we will be sure to visit your stand or display and interview you, complete with shooting video footage for our thorough coverage of this year's event.Jeni Bone, Editor
