Sail-World New Zealand: 16 July 2011
 | | Big wave for Alonso - PWA Tenerife World Cup 2011 day two PWA World Tour | Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 16 July 2011
The ISAF Youth Worlds have concluded in Zadar, Croatia. The New Zealand team has finished in ninth place in the Nations Trophy, the overall measure of a team's relative performance. Best New Zealand place was a fifth, with another crew sixth in their event , and two more in the top ten.
That contrasts with fourth and fifth places in the Volvo Trophy (now renamed the Nations Trophy) in 2010 and 2009, and a Gold Medal in 2009 and a Gold and Silver Medal in 2010.
We have daily reports on the event from the ISAF and also Yachting NZ on the NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team.
There's several image galleries of the sailing, which probably give a better insight into the conditions and the racing than many words in a report.

In the previous newsletter we touched on the Australian Womens Match Racing selection for the 2011 Olympic Test Event or Pre-Olympics. In this edition of Sail-World we feature an interview with Katie Spithill, who reflects on missing selection for the Australian entry in the WMR at Weymouth inAugust. Katie has also been sailing on the AC45, and is the first female sailor to helm the mini-America's Cup catamaran. She tells of that experience, too.

In Valencia, Artemis Racing is the first of the AC45's to get sailing in Europe, ahead of the opening round of the America's Cup World Series, which gets underway in Cascais, Portugal in three weeks time. We have a report from vsail.info who are based in Valencia, along with videos of the rigging and launch.

The 470 class has been in the Olympic Regatta since 1976, and has been sailing in New Zealand since 1973. Many young sailors have gone through the 470 ranks, and have gone onto achieve great success on the international stage, particularly in the America's Cup.

In just over four weeks, on 20 August, a reunion dinner of 470 sailors is being staged at Takapuna Boating Club. We have details on the evening in this edition of Sail-World. If you sailed, or do sail, a 470 this is your chance to catch up with old friends, and meet up with some of the great names in New Zealand sailing.
