Sail-World New Zealand: 13 July 2011
 | | Georgia Schofield (NZL) - Race Day 4 - 2011 ISAF Youth Worlds, Zadar, Croatia Sime Sokota/ISAF Youth Worlds | Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 13 July 2011
The America's Cup is back in the news, for New Zealanders at least, with the unveiling of Emirates Team NZ's two SL33's today, coupled with the announcement of Dell as their technology partner.
To some the events of today might seem like more America's Cup hoop-la, the point is that the twice winner of the America's Cup is on a different course from the other Challengers and Defenders, and would seem to have gained a jump in their development program.

The team now has the capability to sail catamarans at will - which none of the others teams can do - for the simple reason that their training boats are en route to Cascais for the America's Cup World Series - and will be in pack, ship and unpack mode for the three rounds of the World Series - and same again for the seven rounds of the ACWS to be sailed next year.

Quite how they do two boat testing, and on the water design and performance development, with their boats on a ship will be interesting.
Acquiring more AC45's is maybe one solution, but they are a one design class and can't be dropped out of that mode without infringing the Surrogate Boat rule in the America's Cup Protocol.
In this edition we have a close look at the SL33's sailing - they are very impressive - and no doubt will be sporting wingsails in the near future.
 | | Race Day 3 - 2011 ISAF Youth Worlds, Zadar, Croatia Sime Sokota/ISAF Youth Worlds |
In Zadar, Croatia, the ISAF Youth Worlds are well advanced. Light winds have played havoc in the team standings. Currently New Zealand is in eighth place in the country standings for the Nations Trophy - and surprisingly, Great Britain is two places further back on 10th. Currently New Zealand crews are lying second and fourth in two events - and will be looking to come away from Zadar with two medals.

Transpac 2011 - Dang, the Weather Guys were right Kimball Livingston, For Transpac 2011, lighter winds, as predicted, and a bit of lane-shifting re-sorted parts of the racing fleet overnight, but James McDowell's SC70, Grand Illusion, continued to run 1-1, first in the Sleds and first overall with about 1,200 miles to go at 0800 roll call. In a re-sorted division two, we see Jorge Ripstein's Patches, a TP52 navigated by John Rumsey, popping out to a nice lead.... [more] Share this story
