Sail-World New Zealand: 10 July 2011
 | | Laser Radial - Lake Pupuke, Takapuna, Auckland Richard Gladwell | Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 10 July 2011
The tail end of the week has been a little quiet in terms of hard racing news, but that ended yesterday, with the start of the ISAF Youth Worlds in Zada, Croatia.
In this edition we have reports from the opening day of the regatta, plus an image gallery - New Zealand crews generally got away to a slow start - not helped by winds of less than 5kts.
Keeping checking on www.sail-world.com for the latest updates during the week.
Yesterday, New Zealand's triple Olympic medalist, Barbara Kendall, was elected to the International Olympic Committee - a tremendous honour - and we carry a brief report in this edition.

The count down for Cascais - the first of three venues for the America's Cup World Series - which will launch in 26 days time. Ahead of that the teams will be working up for what will be the first real test of the 34th America's Cup.
In this edition we carry the format for the regatta, which is not your usual America's Cup preliminary.

During the week, we wrote of the non-selection of a New Zealand Womens Match Racing crew. The reaction, not for publication, has been interesting.
In this edition we carry the first of a two part story from our Australian editorial team on the state of play with the Australian Sailing Team. They have been under the spotlight with the de-selection of a crew who has been very consistent in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics, and substituted them with a new combination for the Pre-Olympics or the Olympic Test event, as it is officially known.
In Sweden the Stena Match Race Cup, part of the World Match Racing Tour is underway - in fact very near its conclusion.

We carry reports from the event in this edition, and updates on www.sail-world.com.
The IFDS World have concluded in Weymouth, three New Zealand crews competed in the event - with two in the Singlehander (2.4Mr) event, and one in the SKUD 18. We have daily reports from the event. Our contacts on the water, tell us that the New Zealand crews showed good potential in both events. The question being whether New Zealand decides to have a serious crack at the Paralympics - in two classes at least.

Finally, as everyone knows the weather has been dreadful in New Zealand for the past few days. Yesterday a few hardy souls ventured forth on Takapuna's Lake Pupuke, while the 'breeze' was flicking around 25-40kts on the Waitemata harbour. In this edition we feature a gallery of images from the day.
