Sail-World at the Chicago-Mackinac Race

Sail-World is unique in that it's a global sailing news network; as a result, we have editors and subeditors working around the clock.

In North America, we have US and Canadian editors and East Coast and West coast sub-editors, who take the news, watch baton from Sail-World Europe and Sail-World UK and later pass it on to our New Zealand, Australian and Asian editors and subeditors in a 24x7 news operation.

For over a decade, the Sail-World team has been the official event media for many events around the Asia Pacific and now our North American team are using our media systems and methods to report for some of the biggest events on the sailing calendar again as the official media.

Our Sail-World media team will be at the iconic Chicago Yacht Club's 103rd Race to Mackinac, presented by Veuve Clicquot, in just over two weeks time, a mixture of Yanks, Canucks and Aussies, shooting video, reporting and photographing as you'd expect. Yes I know its a pain but we will get used to drinking Champagne, rather than Hahn Premium Light, the long time Hamilton Island staple if we stick at it.

CYC Race to Mackinac 2010  Event Media

This brings me to the point. (at last...) We know there are a significant number of Australians amongst the 3400 sailors, on the 362 boats in this year's Chicago Mackinac race.

If you are going to be sailing in that race, or you know someone who will we'd very much like to hear from you or them, because as well as reporting from a US and Canadian viewpoint, we will be talking to the Oz sailors and the Kiwis too.

Last year line honours in the 289.4 nautical mile race on Lake Michigan was won by Hong Kong sailor Karl Kwok with his 86 footer Beau Geste and his largely Kiwi crew.

And if you think you are going to get a big dose of US racing between July 13th and 20th, the main fleet heads out of the 16th, you are right, but that fair.

The Sydney to Hobart and the Queensland Northern series each winter and just about everything that happens on Auckland Harbour are down under sailing events our North American audience has learned quite a lot about in recent year, especially the 40,000 who receive newsletters every few days as you do too.

So it will be your turn to hear about the biggest sailing event in the US, being raced at the height of the northern hemisphere summer.

CYC Race to Mackinac 2010  Event Media

To learn about this race, you can go to www.cycracetomackinac.com and in the coming days you will see the same intense event media coverage, you are used to, half a world away.

Want to increase your international brand exposure, across the largest marine news network in the world?

Call Phil Arane our Media Sales expert on +61 (0) 407076585

And for those who wont be in Chicago with the summer humidity and sticky biting flies, we will see you at Sydney International Boat Show, the Southport start, the Keppel Race start, at Meriden Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week, Audi Hamilton island Race Week or Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week.

On a more sombre note, please please read the original CYCA report on the Flinders Islet Race in which two bloody nice people Sally Gordon and Andrew Short died. It will take quite a while, I read it again this morning over a cup of coffee.
