The much speculated question as to if any more serious players would step forth and participate in the next America's Cup was answered at a recent press conference in Valencia, Spain. There, the Real Club Nautico de Valencia (RCNV) and Green Comm Racing formally announced their joint participation in the first of the America's Cup World Series events, which will be held this in August in Cascais, Portugal. Furthermore, they also announced their intention to challenge in the 34th America's Cup, and they have appointed design duties to the University of Pisa and UCLA, both of which are considered to be top-notch in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Sensory Wireless Networks.

For fans of the new-generation, hard wingsail-powered multihulls this is great stuff, as it brings the total number of teams that will be racing this August at the Cascais event to nine, representing eight countries. (All told, there will be ten boats on the starting line, as Oracle Racing has two AC45s.) 'We're very pleased to welcome the Real Club Nautico de Valencia to the 34th America's Cup, representing a nation known for its rich maritime history and its significance to the America's Cup,' said Richard Worth, Chairman, America's Cup Event Authority. 'The Green Comm Racing, with their commitment to not just sailing excellence but also a sustainable future, will be a great complement to our strong group of competitors.'

Like many teams that lack Oracle Racing's years of experience designing and racing wingsail-powered multihulls, the team plans to use the existing base package that was out together by the America's Cup Race Management as a starting point, from which they will make their own custom modifications. And in Germany, at Kieler Woche, Team Maclaren, headed up by ace skipper Anna Tunnicliffe, took home the highly competitive Women's Match Racing World Championships. 'It was a great way to wrap up the season,' reports Tunnicliffe in her regatta report. 'We are very excited to have won as it was one of our goals coming into this year. With the ISAF World Cup now wrapped up, we will move our focus onto the first part of our trials in October, and the World Championships in December.'
