Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 23rd June 2011
Emirates Team NZ have stepped up their 2013 America's Cup campaign with the launching of the first of two SL33's - which are just below the maximum size permitted for Surrogate Yachts under the Protocol for the 34th America's Cup.
Built in Wellington, the two SL33's have been assembled in Auckland an will become a familiar sight on the Waitemata Harbour as the crew begin training and design testing ahead of the construction and launching of the first AC72 in 2012.
In this edition of Sail-World, we have an interview with Emirates Team NZ skipper, Dean Barker on the SL33 and how they will work in the America's Cup program, plus an outline of how their three catamaran programs are integrated.

There's a gallery of images of the SL33 being rigged, launched and sailing, plus a look at the second boat being assembled in the base. The two boats are expected to be sailing together for the first time on Monday.

Certainly the reaction seems to have been very good in USA, and particularly so with the general media, with Russell Coutts' spectacular cartwheel being a great story opener.
Yachting New Zealand have announced the team to contest the Pre-Olympics at Weymouth in August. There's a couple of surprises in it, and New Zealand will be represented in nine of the ten events.

The battle of the ISAF World Cup spin doctors continues with the Germans complaining about the reduced attendance at the final round of the ISAF World Cup in Kiel, which the ISAF themselves have released a story claiming that the World Cup is going from strength to strength.
We have the ISAF story in this edition, along with the German view. The ISAF story does set out the shape of next year's event. Almost by default, Sail Melbourne seems to have picked up the Oceania round of the Tour, which expands from three continents to five in 2011/2012.
