Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 07 June 2011
The action has started in the NZ Int Yachting Trust's Auckland - Musket Cove, Fiji Race.
Before the event started, most pundits were just chewing over by how much TeamVodafoneSailing would break the race record.
But sailing is an unpredictable sport, and now the question is whether TeamVodafoneSailing will in fact be the first to finish. Two boats are ahead of her - one the Volvo 70 Camper, sailed by Emirates Team NZ leads by 100nm.
In this edition we have twice daily reports using wind predictions and route information from Predictwind. It is a fascinating exercise in weather routing, the options that can be taken and their outcomes.

We will continue to update this race, which looks like being a neck and neck battle right to the finish at Musket Cove, Fiji.

In Weymouth, England the Skandia Sail for Gold in underway. The event is the sixth round of the ISAF World Sailing Cup, and got underway in light winds.

The event has attracted a large numbers of sailors keen to get a taste of the venue for the 2012 Olympic Regatta, just over a year out from the main Event. For several countries the regatta is doubling as one of their two Olympic Trials - putting a real edge into the racing.
We have reports on the first day's sailing in this edition and will be updating daily on www.sail-world.com through to the end of the regatta.
